Shea Carver is the editor in chief at Port City Daily. A UNCW alumna, Shea worked in the print media business in Wilmington for 22 years before joining the PCD team in October 2020. When she isn’t hanging with her pup, Shadow Wolf, tending the garden or spinning vinyl, she’s attending concerts and live theater.
Aside from editing coverage on PCD’s site and helping guide stories among news staff, Carver engages in government reporting in New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties, including area planning boards, as well as covers the dining scene and business community.

Brenna Flanagan is a journalist who recently graduated from UNCW, with a double major in communication studies and theater. Originally from Goldsboro, NC, Flanagan’s passion is writing and she also enjoys acting in film and television. Her hobbies include singing, reading, traveling, and attending concerts and musicals.
Flanagan’s beat includes government reporting for New Hanover County and the City of Wilmington, as well as education, meaning the local districts in New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties, plus area colleges.

Charlie Fossen graduated from Central Michigan University, with a Bachelor’s degree in broadcast and cinematic arts, with a minor in journalism. He enjoys playing guitar, going to concerts, and traveling.

Emily Sawaked is a reporter originally from New Jersey. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts, where she studied journalism, politics, international relations, French, and art. She received a Masters of Science from Columbia University’s Journalism School, where she concentrated on investigative journalism at the Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism. The bulk of her work has been centered in New York City, and she was previously nominated for Rookie Reporter of the Year for the New York Press Association. Her hobbies include writing, reading, playing Dungeons and Dragons with friends, making art, traveling, and cooking (specifically meats!).
